"A Family Tradition of Ownership"

Quaglino’s Flooring, Inc. has served the Central Coast since 1922. The company with “A Family Tradition of Ownership” recently entered its 88th year in business! The original business was started and operated by James A. Quaglino, an Italian immigrant, who came to this country through Ellis Island, New York. James moved to California with his family as a child. As a young man, he established a construction business specializing in roofing and flooring. In 1947, James built the commercial building located at the corner of Santa Barbara and High Streets in San Luis Obispo. This building would become the site where the business would operate from for many years to come.

In the early 1920’s, James married Peggy Mainini, and they had three children:
Mary Jane, Philip and Alex. The two sons grew up learning the trade from their father. After James’ death in the early 1970’s, the two brothers continued to run the company together for several more years. Overtime, Philip and Alex decided to divide the family business into two separate companies. Philip would oversee the floor business and Alex would operate the roofing company.

Today Quaglino’s Flooring, Inc. continues to be located in the same building James Quaglino built back in 1947. In the family tradition, Philip and his son, Patrick, ran the flooring business together for twenty-five years. Philip retired three years ago, and Patrick has taken over as the sole owner of Quaglino’s Flooring, Inc.

Recently, Patrick relocated the company showroom from the back of the building to the front of the building. He sees this move as the best way to utilize his grandfather’s building. The entrance on Santa Barbara Street helps attracts new customers because of the large volume of traffic that passes by each day. The larger space is also an opportunity to expand flooring selections for customers to view and checkout.

“Special Pricing” is offered to customers who visit the new showroom. Patrick believes each flooring situation is unique, and he negotiates with distributors to receive the best price possible. This insures customers can purchase quality flooring at reasonable rates and have warranties backed by reputable manufacturers. Patrick is proud to provide these services to local families and businesses.
